Sacrifice is a feature length film shot between 2008-2010. Directed by [[Bob Nelson]], produced by [[Brick Cave Media]] and released by same. The film extrapolates the story of the Mesoamerican god Quetzalcoatl into modern day as a giant monster.

== Plot ==
In 1502, Spanish Explorer Alonso de Ojeda lands in the New World, intending to claim the land in the name of Spain. The local population, knowing that they were no match for the Spaniard’s firepower, called a supreme council of the leaders from across the American continent and decided to unleash Quetzalcoatl to defend them.

They conduct a ceremony and unleash the monster, who attacks and destroys the Spanish, but then turns on the native people for their vanity and arrogance. Since they cannot destroy the monster, they instead perform a ceremony to bind the monster to a special jade mask which can only be worn by the women of the family of the High Priest. They dig a giant shrine to the monster, and the High Priest’s daughter wears the mask, and leads the monster into the underground temple. They bury the monster, and the council of priests agrees to settle in the location to forever protect the chamber.

500 years later, the United States launches a new satellite with advanced ground penetration capabilities. The satellite detects radioactive material underground finds traces of plutonium underground in Southern AZ, and a team is dispatched to investigate.

A team of military specialists goes to the site, and calls on geologist Kyle Brougham at Southern AZ University to assist. He is joined by Atzi Olin, his girlfriend and resident of the town closest to the detection site.

Separately, Atzi is interviewing local residents to find a connection between them and the indigenous people of North and Central America. She has an intense discussion with Ichtaca Tonitiuh that makes them both uncomfortable.

Using advanced tunneling equipment, the team lead by Colonel Charlotte Lene discovers a deep underground cavern, and Kyle leads a small group into the cavern to locate the source of the plutonium readings. In town, the local residents begin acting suspicious.

Discovering the remains of a person wearing a jade mask, the party finds that she is still alive, but quickly passes away. Noises and a sudden spike in radiation elwhere in the cavern send the team racing back up their access tube and they are pursued by an unknown creature. One of the team is lost as they ascend.

It is determined that the creature is tunneling its way tot he surface and Kyle and the surviving. While the military gathers what forces it can, Kyle and Atzi fly to Phoenix to examine the mask and interpret a series of scrolls recovered from the site.

The creature emerges, quickly dispatches the military on site and proceeds to following in the direction of the mask.

Ichtaca's daughter Ixalouh interacts with the mask while the group discusses their situation and the creature is drawn to the scene. Escaping by helicopter thanks for Colonel Lene and with he creature distracted by a military ambush, they go back to the small town.

Once there Ixalouh is confronted with he choice to become the new princess and ensnare the creature once again.

Meanwhile, the colonel orchestrates the clearing of the tunnel to re-entomb the creature. The locals perform the ceremony and summon Quetzalcoatl, binding it to Ixalouh and entombing them back into the cavern.

== Description ==
Haven is a city in peril. Crime has increasingly become a fact of life as different factions vie for control of the city’s vast power and wealth. The authorities are pressed at every turn, often too weak to respond to emergencies, and almost equally as often influenced by forces with ill intent. The city is home to millions and attracts more, some seeking opportunity, some seeking escape, and still others seeking something else. In desperation, some of its citizens have taken to wearing costumes and creating alternate identities to fight crime. In turn, the criminals have donned masks to hide their own identities, create alternate personae, or both.

Bruce Davis is a general surgeon and author from Mesa, Arizona. He has published extensively in both Young Adult and Adult Science-Fiction, as well as publishing a non-fiction memoir of his medical career. He continues to practice medicine, write and appear as a speaker at various events and conventions.

Davis received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. He completed his surgical residency at the Bethesda Naval Hospital.

Davis spent 14 years on active duty with the Navy, including time spent overseas and a tour of duty in the First Gulf War with the Marines.

After his military career, Davis opened a private practice as a solo general surgeon in Mesa, Arizona. He continues to practice medicine in addition to his writing career

Davis began writing in high school, which led to him finishing several novels before he began producing his published works. He was first published in 1996.

Davis describes his fiction as mostly ‘hard’ science-fiction, drawing inspiration both from classic fantasy/science-fiction novelists and detective/noir fiction.

In 2015, Davis published outside of the science-fiction genre with his book “Dancing in the Operating Room”, a non-fiction work that described experiences from his years as a trauma surgeon.

Adrienne Bengtson, who writes science fantasy as Adrienne Miles, picked back up her lifelong interest in writing after retiring from the U.S. Air Force and a 25-year career as a librarian. She published her debut novel, ''Spider’s Wyrd'', with Brick Cave Media.

In addition to reading and writing, she enjoys travel, hiking, fiber arts, and doting on her daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. She plays Celtic traditional music on the penny whistle and keyless flute, and has been known to play the great Highland bagpipes in public. She lives in Mesa, Arizona, with her husband and their cats.

Author Sharon Skinner has written ten published books in the Fantasy, Science Fiction, Poetry and Children’s Picture Book genres. With influences ranging from Peter S Beagle to Ursula K Leguin and many styles in between, Sharon is an avid reader and regularly posts her readings on Goodreads.

In addition to having nationally published articles, essays and short stories, both fiction and nonfiction, she served for eight years as the Executive Editor of Anthology magazine, a small press literary magazine published in Mesa, Arizona. She served as an Arizona State Library Writer in Residence for three years. She is an experienced workshop presenter and public speaker and has been a guest author/presenter at a variety of book festivals, writing conferences, and conventions.

Sharon serves as the Regional Advisor for the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators Arizona. She holds a BA in English, an MA in Creative Writing, and Copy Editing Certificate from Writer’s Digest. She is a certified book coach, and manages a separate business entity, Book Coaching by Sharon, for that business. She is an experienced workshop presenter and public speaker and has been a guest author/presenter at a variety of book festivals, writing conferences, and conventions. Sharon has also been a contributing writer for film projects, including ''Sacrifice'' from Brick Cave Films. As a recording artist, Sharon has released two albums of spoken word, ''Sifted Gems, Polished Dreams'' and ''The Vultures are Circling, but I’m not Finished, Yet.''

She has a deep love for speculative fiction and fantasy and is particularly fond of character-driven stories.

The cliche is real; the small town girl that moved to the big city and made her dreams come true. Czep’s childhood was filled with wandering through fields and marshlands in Central New York, but not a whole lot of real friends. Content to mold a world filled with imaginary companions, fantastical adventures, and magical spells, Czep took to writing down the stories in her overactive mind.

As a writer, adventurer, pirate, bellydancer, and mother, Czep has been known to tell a tale or two of sword fighting with The DREAD Fleet pirates, cavorting with beautiful bellydancers of bint Hazine, taming trains and mechanical bulls in the wild west, and enjoying the company of troublesome trolls, magical mermaids, and pesky pixies. She continues her exploration in a range of studies in hopes of being more like characters, like Emily (Trolls), or Blackstrap Gennie (Blackstrap’s Ecstasy).

In costume or jeans, she is the same Czep, ever glad to offer a hand to writers and artists, young or young at heart.

Bruce Davis is a general surgeon and author from Mesa, Arizona. He has published extensively in both Young Adult and Adult Science-Fiction, as well as publishing a non-fiction memoir of his medical career. He continues to practice medicine, write and appear as a speaker at various events and conventions.

Davis received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. He completed his surgical residency at the Bethesda Naval Hospital.

Davis spent 14 years on active duty with the Navy, including time spent overseas and a tour of duty in the First Gulf War with the Marines.

After his military career, Davis opened a private practice as a solo general surgeon in Mesa, Arizona. He continues to practice medicine in addition to his writing career

Davis began writing in high school, which led to him finishing several novels before he began producing his published works. He was first published in 1996.

Davis describes his fiction as mostly ‘hard’ science-fiction, drawing inspiration both from classic fantasy/science-fiction novelists and detective/noir fiction.

In 2015, Davis published outside of the science-fiction genre with his book “Dancing in the Operating Room”, a non-fiction work that described experiences from his years as a trauma surgeon.

Giunta]] met and they worked together to reinvent a literary magazine that Joe had founded while in college called [[Anthology magazine]]. Joe eventually went off to launch a LAN Cafe (old school DOOM anyone?) and Bob carried forward with the magazine, adding author [[Sharon Skinner]] to staff and publishing until 2004.

Brick Cave was started by Bob in 2006 as a spoken word record label. In 2008, Brick Cave added "Film Studio" to its repertoire with the shooting of the movie [[Sacrifice]]. In 2010, Joe called up Bob and said, "Hey, I have these stories and I don't want to publish them. Will you?"

After a healthy dose of "huh?", Bob did indeed publish those stories (They make up the first Knights of Virtue book, by the way) and many more, growing to 10 authors and dozens of titles in 2024.
